UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up over 1.8% at close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Wednesday at 98,585.29 points, soaring by 1.83%.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 96,840.62 points. As of daily close, it gained 1,774.07 points from Tuesday's close of 96,811.22 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 96,270.98 and 98,699.05 points during Wednesday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 656.9 billion Turkish liras ($115 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 8 billion Turkish liras ($1.4 billion).

On the third transaction day of the week, 83 stocks on the index rose, 10 were down, and seven were flat compared to the previous close.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by Garanti, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and state lender Vakifbank.

Shares of leasing company Is Finansal Kiralama increased most, up 10.37%, while stocks of automotive giant Tofas saw the biggest drop, falling 2.60%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,407.60 by market close, up from $1,391.00 at the previous close, according to Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets data.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $66.05 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Wednesday.
