UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up over 1% at close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 112,599.92 points on Tuesday, up 1.07% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 112,594.00 points. As of the daily close, it earned 1,187.22 points from Monday's close of 111,412.70 points.

During Tuesday's trading, the index's hovered between 112,347.58 points and 113,387.24 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 773.36 billion Turkish liras ($129.6 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 9.55 billion Turkish liras ($1.6 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 87 stocks on the index rose, 1 were down, and two were flat compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, defense giant Aselsan and participation bank Albaraka Turk.

Conglomerate GSD Holding, mostly active in finance and shipping sectors, was the best performer, with its shares up 6.08%, while freezer manufacturing company Klimasan dropped the most, down 4.44%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,569.50 by market close, down from $1,577.90 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $68.3 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Tuesday.
