UPDATE - Turkey's stocks up 1.64 pct at close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the last business day of the week up 1.64 percent to close at 88,830.82 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index climbed 1,431.80 points from the previous close while it started Friday at 87,894.19 points.

Peaking at 89,121.11 points during the sessions, 75 stocks on the BIST 100 rose, 23 fell, and two were flat compared to the previous close.

Stocks of conglomerate Koc Holding’s defense company Otokar (OTKAR) were the top gainers -- up 6.74 percent -- as real estate investment trust Ihlas Gayrimenkul (IHLGM) saw the biggest drop, falling 2.88 percent.

As of the daily close, the total market value of the BIST 100 was around 574 billion Turkish liras ($105 billion) with a daily trade volume of 4.79 billion liras ($885.5 million).

Koc Holding ($6.33 billion) and lenders Garanti Bankasi ($6.15 billion) and Akbank ($5.56 billion) were the leading listed companies by market capitalization

On Friday, the highest trade volumes were posted by Garanti Bankasi, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and Akbank.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.4160 at the daily close, down from 5.5040 at Thursday's close.

The euro/lira rate stood at 6.1590, down from 6.2500 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 6.8580 Turkish liras, versus Thursday's close of 6.9250.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,290.15 by market close, compared with $1,287.45 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil was around $57.86 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Friday, after hovering between $55.37 and $58.13 during the day.
