UPDATE - Turkish board: Election security assured

Supreme Election Board chairman says it is 'wrong' to begin discussion on election security before start of early polls

ANKARA (AA) - Supreme Election Board Chairman Sadi Guven on Monday assured election security and dismissed claims of duplicate or fake electorates.

Guven told reporters in capital Ankara that "all measures for election security" have been taken.

"Elections are secured, there is no duplicate electorate, no fake electorate and there is no claim of 'using fake election ballot'.

"Since these are nonexistent, it is wrong to begin discussion on election security before starting the elections," Guven said.

Underscoring that the biggest responsibility regarding elections is on political parties, he said: "They should send their representatives, their members and observers to all of the ballot boxes."

On March 20, the parliament passed a bill calling for early elections on June 24.
