Hulusi Akar meets French, Afghan, Greek and Qatari counterparts at NATO headquarters in Brussels

UPDATES WITH MORE MEETINGS, CHANGES HEADLINE, DECK

ANKARA (AA) - Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar met with his Greek, French, Afghan and Qatari counterparts at NATO Headquarters in Brussels on Friday, according to a statement from the Turkish Defense Ministry.

The meetings came on the sidelines of the second day of NATO defense ministers meeting in Brussels.

The statement said Akar met with his Greek counterpart Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos and discussed defense and security issues at NATO Headquarters.

Akar and Panagiotopoulos also exchanged views on the Aegean Sea, Cyprus and developments in Eastern Mediterranean, it added.

Akar emphasized that the problems between Ankara and Athens will be resolved within the framework of good neighborly relations and international law.

He also met with French Defense Minister Florence Parly at NATO Headquarters.

"During the meeting, views on defense and security issues were exchanged, especially on Syria and Libya," the statement said.

The statement said Akar also met with acting Defense Minister of Afghanistan Asadullah Khalid at NATO Headquarters.

During the meeting, the matters pertaining to defense and security cooperation and the current situation in Afghanistan were discussed.

Akar also met Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, Qatar’s defense minister and deputy prime minister, the statement said.

"During the meeting, the relations between the two countries, and views on regional security issues and co-operation in defense industry were discussed," the statement said.
