Artillery, coalition jets hit targets in and around Jarabulus, close to Turkey's southern border
UPDATES WITH MORE FROM TURKISH MILITARY
ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s armed forces say they have shelled 21 terrorist targets in Jarabulus, northern Syria as part of Operation Euphrates Shield.
Since Monday 4.30 p.m. local time [1330GMT] Turkish artillery shelled 21 terrorist positions in and around Jarabulus using Firtina howitzers, the military said in a statement on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, coalition warplanes struck two Daesh positions in Jarabulus late on Monday, the statement added.
The Turkish Armed Forces said it was taking all necessary measures to avoid civilian casualties.
Operation Euphrates Shield, which was launched on Wednesday, is aimed at improving security, supporting coalition forces and eliminating the terror threat along Turkey’s border through Free Syrian Army fighters backed by Turkish armor, artillery and jets.
