ANKARA / TRABZON, Turkey (AA) - Turkish police on Monday arrested at least 27 people for their suspected links to the Daesh terror group in domestic operations, security sources said.

In the capital Ankara, police nabbed 22 Daesh suspects -- including 17 Iraqi and five Syrian – who were accused of recruiting members for the terror group before May Day, or International Workers’ Day.

The suspects were also accused of entering Turkey illegally, said a source who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Security forces and intelligence services continue their activities to prevent the foreign terrorists from entering Turkey, said the source.

As part of organizational activities, deportation and repatriation process will be implemented to the suspects.

Earlier, in Trabzon, a Black Sea province in northern Turkey, police arrested five Daesh-linked terror suspects.

The suspects -- identified by the initials O.Y, E.U, S.Y.K, A.S. and A.Z.N -- were accused of making propaganda on social media for the terror group, according to local police department.

Apart from the Turkish currency, police also seized foreign currencies as well as some digital documents during the search.

More than 300 people have lost their lives in Daesh-claimed attacks in recent years across Turkey, where the terror organization has targeted civilians in suicide bombs, rocket and gun attacks.

Turkish security forces have been involved in a long-running campaign to thwart Daesh activities.
