UPDATE - Turkish stocks down 0.47 pct at close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index went down 0.47 percent to close at 93,516.96 points on Tuesday.

Starting the day at 93,904.85 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 445.39 points from Monday's close.

During Tuesday's trading, the BIST 100's peaked at 94,104.46 points while its daily low was 93,043.02 points. Compared with the previous close, 62 stocks on the index rose, 33 fell and five were flat.

Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($6.80 billion), private lender Garanti Bankasi ($6.29 billion), and energy company Tupras ($5.82 billion) were the leading companies by market value.

The BIST 100's total market value was around 606 billion Turkish liras ($115 billion), and its daily trade volume was 6.8 billion Turkish liras ($1.3 billion).

Tuesday's highest trade volumes were recorded by private lender Garanti Bankasi, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and another lender Akbank.

Stocks of cement producer Afyon Cimento (AFYON) climbed the most on Tuesday, up 14.25 percent, while shares of casting producer Cemas Dokum (CEMAS) saw the largest decline for the second consecutive day with a 7.89-percent fall.

By market close, the U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 5.2380, compared with 5.2390 at close on Monday.

The EUR/TRY exchange rate was 5.9330, as one euro traded for 5.9550 liras at the previous close.

The British pound/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 6.6960, versus Monday's close of 6.7430.

At daily close, the price of one ounce of gold was $1,224.00 in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, down from $1,226.30 at the previous close.

Hovering between $59.58 and $61.12 during the day, the price of Brent oil was around $61.07 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) Tuesday.
