UPDATE - Turkish stocks down 0.50 pct at close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index fell 0.50 percent to close at 101,289.75 points on Monday.

After opening the week at 101,822.80 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 511.67 points from the previous close.

During Monday's trading, the BIST 100's daily low was 101,240.45 points as it peaked at 102,807.49 points, and 38 stocks on the index rose, 56 fell, and four were flat compared to the previous close.

With a market value of 659.5 billion Turkish liras ($125.3 billion), the benchmark index posted a 7.32 billion Turkish lira ($1.38 billion) daily trade volume.

By market capitalization, leading companies of the BIST 100 were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.14 billion), private lender Garanti Bankasi ($7.07 billion), and energy giant Tupras ($6.51 billion).

Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti Bankasi, iron and steel producer Kardemir recorded the highest trade volumes on Monday.

Stocks of Parsan Makina (PARSN), operating in steel forging and machinery, were the top gainers with a 13.43-percent hike, while shares of state lender Halkbank (HALKB) saw the largest decline, down 3.19 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.3130 as of the daily close, versus 5.2820 at Friday's close.

One euro traded for 6.0710 liras, up from 6.0080 at the previous close.

The British pound/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 7.0040 by market close, compared with last week's close of 6.9360.

One ounce of gold was sold for $1,301.35 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, up from $1,284.35 at the previous close.

With a day-range of $59.91 to $61.13, the price of Brent oil was around $59.95 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Monday.
