UPDATE - Turkish stocks down 1.15 pct at close

BIST 100 index falls nearly 1,100 points from previous close, USD/TRY exchange rate rises to 5.38

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Tuesday down 1.15 percent to close at 93,880.49 points.

Starting the day at 94,649.89 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 1,093.96 points from Monday's close.

During Tuesday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 93,530.35 and 95,550.47 points.

The BIST 100's total market value was 611.8 billion Turkish liras ($117.8 billion), while its daily trade volume was 6.76 billion Turkish liras ($1.1 billion).

Leading listed companies by market capitalization were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($7.44 billion), private lender Garanti Bankasi ($6.50 billion), and energy company Tupras ($6.01 billion).

National flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti Bankasi, iron and steel producer Kardemir saw the highest trade volumes on Tuesday.

Compared to the previous close, 36 stocks on the benchmark index rose, 63 fell, and one was flat.

Shares of another Turkish conglomerate Ittifak Holding (ITTFH) posted the best performance, rising 19.85 percent, as stocks of Kardemir (KRDMD) dropped 6.87 percent, highest decline on Tuesday.

As of daily close, one U.S. dollar traded for 5.3820 Turkish liras, while the USD/TRY exchange rate was 5.2810 at the previous close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.1330, compared with Monday's close of 5.9850.

One British pound traded for 6.8820 Turkish liras, versus 6.7040 at close on Monday.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,239 by market close, versus $1,229 at the previous close.

Hovering between $61.70 and $63.58 during the day, the price of Brent oil was around $62.29 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) Tuesday.
