UPDATE - Turkish stocks down 1.57 pct at close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index fell 1.57 percent to close at 92,227.32 points on Monday.

Starting the day at 93,245.87 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index went down 1,472.17 points from last week's close.

The BIST 100 peaked at 93,453.70 points while its daily low was 92,217.54 points during Monday's trading.

As of daily close, the total market value of the benchmark index was around 602 billion Turkish liras ($113 billion), with a 4.43-billion lira ($857 million) in daily trade volume.

By market capitalization, leading listed companies were private lender Denizbank ($7.09 billion), Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($6.98 billion), and another private lender Garanti Bank ($6.18 billion).

The highest trade volumes were recorded by Garanti Bank, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and iron/steel producer Kardemir.

On Monday, 25 stocks on the BIST 100 rose, 69 declined, and six were flat compared with the previous close.

Stocks of cement producer Goltas Cimento (GOLTS) witnessed the highest increase, up 9.17 percent, while shares of Turkish conglomerate Ittifak Holding (ITTFH) showed the worst performance with a 14.50-percent drop.

One U.S. dollar traded for 5.3060 Turkish liras at daily close, while the USD/TRY exchange rate was 5.2940 at close on Friday.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.0590, versus 6.0280 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 6.7110 Turkish liras, down from Friday's close of 6.7640.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,247.20 by market close, up from $1,241.80 at the previous close.

Hovering between $60.48 and $62.34 during the day, the price of Brent oil was around $61.12 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) Monday.
