ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the day down 0.87% to close at 98,780.38 points on Thursday.
Starting the day at 99,957.90 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index dropped 868.36 points from 99,648.74 points at midweek close.
During Thursday trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 97,510.69 points and 100,259.52 points -- 29 stocks on the index rose, 70 fell, and one was flat compared to the previous close.
Closing the day with a market value of nearly 664 billion Turkish liras ($114 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 9.51 billion Turkish liras ($1.62 billion).
By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($7.87 billion), private lenders Garanti BBVA ($6.66 billion) and Akbank ($6.45 billion) were the top companies of BIST 100.
Shares of Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and Akbank recorded the highest trading volumes -- accounting for some 36% of the benchmark index's total trade volume.
Stocks of casting manufacturer Cemas Dokum (CEMAS) were the top gainers with a 6.67% hike, while shares of food industry company Tukas Gida (TUKAS) dropped the most, falling 19.67%.
An ounce of gold sold for $1,504.00 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,508.00 at the previous close.
The price of Brent oil was $58.87 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Thursday -- with a day range of $57.79 to $59.14.
At the beginning of 2019, a barrel of Brent oil sold for around $53.
