UPDATE - Turkish stocks end Tuesday 1.45% up

BIST 100 index surges nearly 1,500 points from previous close, USD/TRY exchange rate stands around 5.68

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Tuesday up 1.45% to close at 102,556.15 points.

Starting the day at 101,223.70 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index surged 1,467.42 points from Monday's close at 101,088.73 points.

On Tuesday, the BIST 100 hovered between 101,086.52 points and 102,917.39 points -- 66 stocks on the index rose, 20 fell, and 14 were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of some 681 billion Turkish liras ($120 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 6.33 billion Turkish liras ($1.11 billion).

By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.54 billion) and private lenders Garanti BBVA ($7.27 billion) and Akbank ($7.05 billion) were the leading companies of BIST 100.

Shares of Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and state-run lender Halkbank saw the highest trading volumes on Tuesday -- accounting for around 42% of the benchmark index's total trade volume.

Stocks of AVOD Gida, which is operating in the food industry, were the top gainers -- up 9.33% -- as shares of bedding and furniture company Yatas fell the most with a 2.38% drop.

An ounce of gold sold for $1,419.70 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,425.70 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil was $63.04 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Tuesday, with a day range of $62.66 to $63.66.

At the beginning of 2019, a barrel of Brent oil sold for around $53.
