UPDATE - Turkish stocks end week 0.87% down

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the week down 0.87% to close at 95,734.17 points on Friday.

Starting the day at 97,199.04 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 844.53 points from Thursday's close at 96,578.70 points.

On a weekly basis, the benchmark index posted a 3.69% decline. At the beginning of this year, the BIST 100 stood around 89,000 points.

During Friday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 95,730.86 points and 97,571.73 points -- 34 stocks on the index rose, 61 fell, and five were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the week with a market value of some 636 billion Turkish liras ($114 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 6.45 billion Turkish liras ($1.16 billion).

By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.24 billion), lenders Garanti BBVA ($6.77 billion) and Akbank ($6.50 billion) were the leading companies of the BIST 100.

Shares of Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and Akbank saw the highest trading volumes of the day -- accounting for 37.6% of the benchmark index's total trade volume.

Stocks of Adese Alisveris Merkezleri (ADESE), which operates in wholesale and retail trade sector, showed the top performance -- up 13.33% --, and shares of Ege Endustri (EGEEN), which manufactures components for the automotive industry, did the worst second day in a row with a 5.05% drop.

An ounce of gold was sold for $1,512.10 at the weekly close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,512.00 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil was $58.55 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Friday -- hovering between $58.28 and $59.49 during the day.

At the beginning of 2019, a barrel of Brent oil was sold for around $53.
