UPDATE - Turkish stocks end week down

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the week with a 1.21-percent down to close at 103,266.58 points on Friday.

Starting the day at 104,689.85 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 1,263.35 points from the previous close.

During Friday's trading, the BIST 100 peaked at 104,832.92 points while its daily low was 102,956.65 points -- 33 stocks on the index rose, 64 fell, and three were flat compared to the previous close.

The benchmark index posted a 6.77 billion Turkish liras ($1.26 billion) daily trading volume and closed the week with a market value of around 679 billion Turkish liras ($128 billion).

By market capitalization, the leading companies of the BIST 100 were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding, private lender Garanti Bankasi, and energy giant Tupras.

Garanti Bankasi, electronic appliances manufacturer Vestel, Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines saw the highest trading volumes on Friday.

Shares of Ipek Dogal Enerji (IPEKE) showed the best performance of the day -- up 8.30 percent -- as stocks of iron and steel producer Kardemir (KRDMD) did the worst, falling 5.28 percent.

One ounce of gold was sold for $1,309 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, down from $1,324 at the previous close.

With a day range of $65.17 to $67.13, the price of Brent oil was around $65.30 per barrel as of 6.30 p.m. local time (1530GMT) on Friday.

At the beginning of 2019, the price of Brent oil was around $53 per barrel.
