Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 rises over 670 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 118,663.70 points on Friday, up 0.57% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 118,250.70 points. As of the daily close, it lost 673.25 points from Thursday's close of 117,990.45 points.

On a weekly basis, the benchmark index posted a 4% increase this week. At the beginning of this year, the BIST 100 stood around 89,000 points.

During Friday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 117,701.09 points and 119,140.10 points -- 54 stocks on the index rose, 40 fell, and six were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the week with a market value of around 812.4 billion Turkish liras ($138.1 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 15.1 billion Turkish liras ($2.6 billion).

By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.9 billion) and private lenders Garanti BBVA ($8.6 billion) and Akbank ($7.7 billion) were the top companies on the BIST 100.

Shares of national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, energy firm Odas Elektrik and state lender Halk Bankasi posted the highest trading volumes.

Stocks of automotive company Dogus Otomotiv climbed the most, rising 6.75%, while shares of Odas Elektrik dropped the most, falling 5.81%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,550.00 by market close, up from $1,548.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $65.15 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. (1515GMT) on Friday, with a daily range of $64.9-$65.66.
