UPDATE - Turkish stocks end week up 1.84%

BIST 100 index rises 294 points from Thursday's close, USD/TRY exchange rate stands around 5.76

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the week up 1.84% to close at 97,149.04 points on Friday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 95,688.27 points, rising 294.03 points from Thursday's close at 95,394.24 points.

During Friday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 95,270.66 points and 97,403.90 points -- 76 stocks on the index rose, 16 fell, and eight were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the week with a market value of some 646.2 billion Turkish liras ($112 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 6.1 billion Turkish liras ($1billion).

By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($7.8 billion), lenders Garanti BBVA ($6.6 billion) and Akbank ($6.3 billion) were the leading companies of the BIST 100.

Shares of Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and state lender Halkbank saw the highest trading volumes of the day.

Stocks of prominent hospital group MLP Saglik showed the top performance -- up 14.11% --, and shares of conglomerate Ihlas Holding did the worst with a 3.77% drop.

An ounce of gold was sold for $1,501.70 at the weekly close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,494.00 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil was $59.80 per barrel as of 6.00 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Friday -- hovering between $58.33 and $60.3 during the day.
