UPDATE - Turkish stocks end week up

BIST 100 index increases over 575 points from Thursday's close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the week up 0.58% to close at 99,768.15 points.

Starting the day at 100,401.42 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 575.12 points from 99,193.03 points at yesterday's close.

On the last trading day, the BIST 100 hovered between 99,678.32 points and 100,812.52 points -- 41 stocks on the index rose, 12 fell, and the remaining were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of nearly 707 billion Turkish liras ($101 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 11.1 billion Turkish liras ($1.6 billion).

Shares of defense company Aselsan, pharmaceutical firm Eczacibasi Ilac and a major Turkish retail sale chain, BIM Birlesik Magazalar saw the highest trading volumes.

Stocks of polyester producer, Sasa, were the top gainer with a 9.98% rise, while shares of Alkim Kimya, which produces chemical materials, dropped the most, falling 9.96%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,715.00 by market close, down from $1,738.50 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.


The price of Brent oil was $30.33 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Friday.

At the beginning of 2020, a barrel of Brent oil sold for around $31.49.
