UPDATE - Turkish stocks end week with loss

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the week down 2.18% to close at 99,679.44 points on Friday.

Starting the day at 101,508.05 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 2,220.81 points from Thursday's close at 101,900.25 points.

On a weekly basis, the benchmark index posted a 3.07% decline. At the beginning of this year, the BIST 100 stood around 89,000 points.

During Friday's trading, the BIST 100's daily low was 99,629.79 points while it peaked at 101,706.91 points -- 16 stocks on the index rose, 76 fell, and eight were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the week with a market value of nearly 663 billion Turkish liras ($119 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of around 5.62 billion Turkish liras ($1 billion).

By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.25 billion), private lenders Garanti BBVA ($7.22 billion) and Akbank ($6.77 billion) were the top companies of BIST 100.

Stocks of national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti BBVA and defense company Aselsan recorded the highest trading volumes on Friday -- accounting for nearly 36% of the benchmark index's total trade volume.

Shares of energy and mining company Park Elektrik (PRKME) showed the best performance -- up 2.32% -- as stocks of energy giant Tupras (TUPRS) did the worst with a 4.88% drop.

An ounce of gold was sold for $1,438.00 at the weekly close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,403.50 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil was $62.43 per barrel as of 6:15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Friday -- hovering between $60.95 and $62.93 during the day.
