UPDATE - Turkish stocks up 0.33% at weekly close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 1,444.63 points on Friday, up 0.33% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,439.62 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 4.77 points from Thursday's close of 1,439.86 points.

On a weekly basis, the benchmark index posted a decline of 0.21% this week.

During Friday's trading, the BIST 100's daily low was 1,432.40, while it peaked at 1,449.27 points with 45 stocks on the index rising, 50 declining, and five flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the week with a market value of nearly 1.1 trillion Turkish liras ($128 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of around 12.1 billion Turkish liras ($1.4 billion).

The stocks of private lender Garanti BBVA and iron and steel producers Eregli and Kardemir recorded the highest trading volumes on Friday.

Shares of energy company Aksa Enerji showed the best performance -- up 5.71% -- as stocks of conglomerate Dogan Holding did the worst with a 3.7% drop.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,786.40 by market close, down from $1,787.30 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $66.07 per barrel as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT).
