UPDATE - Turkish stocks up 0.47 pct at midweek close

BIST 100 index climbs 475.52 points from previous close, USD/TRY exchange rate stands around 5.46

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Wednesday up 0.47 percent to close at 102,196.57 points.

After starting the day at 101,820.81 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index climbed 472.52 points from the previous close.

During the midweek trading, the BIST 100 peaked at 102,532.30 points -- 46 stocks on the index rose, 50 fell, and four were flat compared to the previous close.

The index posted a daily trading volume of 6.62 billion Turkish liras ($1.21 billion), closing the day with a market value of around 670 billion Turkish liras ($123 billion).

By market capitalization, the leading companies of the BIST 100 were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding, private lender Garanti Bankasi, and energy company Tupras.

The highest trading volumes were seen in stocks of Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti Bankasi and an another private lender Akbank.

Shares of telecommunication systems integration provider Netas were the top gainers -- up 9.97 percent -- and stocks of food giant Ulker Biskuvi suffered the largest decline of the day with a 4.46-percent drop.

One ounce of gold was sold for $1,308.00 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, up from $1,296.20 at the previous close.

With a day range of $66.70 to $67.50, the price of Brent oil was around $67.33 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Wednesday.

At the beginning of 2019, the price of Brent oil was around $53 per barrel.
