BIST 100 index rises over 900 points from previous close, USD/TRY exchange rate stands around 5.52

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Tuesday up 0.92% to close at 99,583.82 points.

Starting the day at 98,984.18 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index surged 910.54 points from Monday's close at 98,673.28 points.

On Tuesday, the BIST 100 hovered between 98,822.54 points and 100,057.60 points -- 47 stocks on the index rose, 39 fell, and 14 were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of some 661 billion Turkish liras ($119 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 5.47 billion Turkish liras ($987 million).

By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.38 billion), private lenders Garanti BBVA ($7.41 billion), and Akbank ($6.97 billion) were the leading companies of BIST 100.

Shares of Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and state lender Halkbank saw the highest trading volumes on Tuesday -- accounting for nearly 38% of the benchmark index's total trade volume.

Stocks of prominent hospital group MLP Saglik (MPARK) performed the best, rising 4.42%, while shares of Parsan Makina (PARSN), operating in steel forging and machinery, did the worst with a 17.13% drop.

An ounce of gold sold for $1,465.00 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,460.00 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil was $59.86 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Tuesday, with a day range of $59.16 to $60.55.

At the beginning of 2019, a barrel of Brent oil sold for around $53.
