ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkiye's benchmark stock index closed the day at 1,963.59 points on Tuesday, up 1.92% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,941.26 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 36.93 points from Monday's close of 1,926.66 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,925.22 points, while its daily high was 1,978.12.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.60 trillion Turkish liras (some $118.3 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 32.6 billion liras ($2.47 billion).

During the day, 66 stocks on the index rose, 31 fell, and three were unchanged compared to Monday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by flag carrier Turkish Airlines, iron/steel producer Eregli, and private lender Garanti BBVA.

Turkish retailer Migros was the best performer, with its shares up 9.97%, while stocks of energy company Esen saw the sharpest drop, 4.22%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,808.80 by market close, down from $1,830 at Friday's close.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $80.2 per barrel as of 6.30 p.m. local time (1530GMT).
