ADDS INFO ON SARKAR'S TIES TO FEMALE VICTIM
NEW YORK (AA) – A woman found fatally shot inside her home in Minnesota was on a “kill list” of the shooter the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA), police said Thursday.
The female victim was identified by the Los Angeles Times newspaper as Ashley Hasti.
According to the daily, local records confirm Hasti was married in June 2011 to Mainak Sarka -- the lone shooter who killed a professor at UCLA on Wednesday.
Earlier Thursday, Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck told the KTLA news channel that police conducted a follow-up investigation at Sarkar’s residence in Minnesota based on a note he left at the scene of the shootings at the UCLA campus.
“In his residence we found multiple items including extra ammunition, also a note with names on it, indicating a kill list,” Beck said.
An investigation at the address in Minnesota found the woman inside her home dead from gunshot wounds, according to Beck. “We don’t suspect that there are additional suspects.”
Officials have not identified the female victim or whether she was still married to Sarkar at the time of the shootings.
Beck added that professor William Klug, the victim of the shooting at UCLA’s Engineering IV building, was on the list of the former doctoral student, along with another professor, whose name the police chief did not disclose but said was unharmed.
Beck said Sarkar drove his vehicle from Minnesota to Los Angeles to target Klug.
