WASHINGTON (AA) - Police arrested the suspect in a school shooting in the US state of Texas on Wednesday after four victims were injured at Timberview High School.

Arlington Assistant Police Chief Kevin Kolbye said police have preliminarily determined gunfire erupted during a confrontation between a student and another individual in a classroom.

“This is not a random act of violence. This is not somebody attacking our schools,” he said.

He identified the suspect as Timothy George Simpkins, a Black 18-year-old, who police believe fled the scene in a silver car and warned the public that he was armed and dangerous.

Simpkins has since been taken into custody "without incident," and charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, according to police.

One victim had minor injuries and refused treatment while the three others were taken to a local hospital. Two sustained gunshot wounds, according to police.

A 15-year-old victim is in critical condition, according to a local CBS News affiliate.

Kolbye said he has "high confidence" the suspect was the sole shooter and that he is no longer at Timberview High School.

The Arlington Police Department said "most students" have been transported to a nearby performing arts center where they are being reunited with their families.
