UPDATE - US police identify suspect in Texas school shooting; 4 victims injured

WASHINGTON (AA) - Police identified the suspect in a shooting at a school in the state of Texas on Wednesday after four victims were injured at Timberview High School.

Arlington Assistant Police Chief Kevin Kolbye said police have preliminarily determined gunfire erupted during a confrontation between a student and another individual in a classroom.

“This is not a random act of violence. This is not somebody attacking our schools,” he said.

He identified the suspect as Timothy George Simpkins, a Black 18-year-old, who police believe fled the scene in a silver car and authorities are warning the public that he is armed and dangerous. Simpkins remains at large.

Of the four victims, one had only minor injuries and refused treatment while the three others were taken to a local hospital. Two sustained gunshot wounds, according to police.

Kolbye said he has "high confidence" the suspect was the sole shooter and that he is no longer at Timberview High School.

Authorities are working to bring students out of the school and will transport them via bus to a nearby performing arts center where they will be reunited with their families.
