US, China to meet Thursday to overcome tariff war

Negotiations come before US tariffs scheduled for Oct. 15

ANKARA (AA) - The U.S. administration will host a Chinese delegation on Thursday to find a way out from the ongoing trade war between two countries.

U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will start the new round of talks in Washington with a Chinese official group headed by Vice Premier Liu He, ahead of planned U.S. tariffs to be imposed on Oct.15.

Thursday's meeting between the U.S. and China was announced by the White House on Monday and will include topics of forced technology transfer, intellectual property rights, services, non-tariff barriers, agriculture, and enforcement.

If talks bear no fruits, tariffs on more than $250 billion in Chinese imports are set to rise from 25% to 30% on Tuesday, while another tranche of 10% tariffs on more than $125 billion is on the way for Chinese products, which will be in effect on Dec. 15.

The U.S. and China are engaged in an intense tariff war and Washington wants a "fair" trade deal with Beijing which the duo has not reached yet.

Trump has repeatedly said he is in no rush to reach a trade deal whit China, preferring a long-sought deal.
