US construction spending rises below expectations in April
Figure shows monthly gain of 0.2%, below estimate of 0.5%

ANKARA (AA) - US construction spending rose in April, but failed to beat the market expectation, according to Commerce Department data released Wednesday.
Construction spending, one of the major indicators of well-being in the construction sector, showed a monthly gain of 0.2% to almost $1.75 trillion in April.
The market had expected a monthly gain of 0.5%.
The figure for March was revised to approximately $1.74 billion – a 0.3% increase from the month before.
On an annual basis, the April figure is 12.3% higher than the same month a year ago, when it stood at over $1.55 billion.
