US: Poll has Biden ahead by 6 in key battleground state

Biden leads Trump 49-43% in Nevada with 4% of likely voters remaining undecided or declining to state preference

WASHINGTON (AA) - US Democratic presidential challenger Joe Biden has a six-point lead against President Donald Trump in Nevada, a key state for electoral prospects, according to a poll Tuesday.

Biden leads Trump 49-43% with 4% of likely voters remaining undecided or declining to state a preference one week from Election Day, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll.

The poll was taken following last week's final presidential debate, a political showdown far more orderly than the first when the candidates spoke over one another, Trump doing so far more often than Biden.

The most recent poll issued by the Times shows results relatively comparable to those in September when Biden led 48-42%.

Nevada has traditionally been a Republican state but has trended increasingly Democratic in recent elections.

It is among a handful of battleground states headed into Nov. 3 in which candidates are locked in tight contests.

But averages compiled by the Real Clear Politics website shows Biden continuing to maintain a lead in five of the six top battleground states.

The former vice president trails Trump by a razor-thin 0.4% in Florida where 29 Electoral College votes are up for grabs, the most of any major battleground state. All of the other states tracked by Real Clear Politics -- Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin -- hold 72 electoral votes.

Nevada holds just six.

A candidate needs 270 Electoral College votes to win the presidency.
