US stock market closes lower

ANKARA (AA) - US stock markets closed lower on Monday, with the Dow Jones recovering while the S&P and the Nasdaq fell into negative territory.

The blue-chip Dow closed almost flat rising slightly 1.39 point to 35,091.

The S&P 500 declined 16 points, or 0.37%, to 4,483. The Nasdaq decreased 82 points, or 0.58%, to 14,015.

The VIX volatility index, known as the fear index, fell 1.55% to 22.86.

The dollar index lost 0.07% to 95.42, and the yield on 10-year US Treasury notes fell 0.46% to 1.922%.

Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 0.74% to $1,821 per ounce and silver rising 2.2% to $23.02.

Crude oil prices reversed direction to take a breath from a recent rally.

Brent crude was trading at $92.87 per barrel, down 0.44% after hitting almost $94 during the day.

US benchmark West Texas Intermediate was at $91.52 a barrel, down 0.86% after climbing to $92.71 earlier.
