US stock market closes mixed despite high opening

ANKARA (AA) - Major indices in the US stock market closed mixed on Monday despite having a high opening.

The Dow Jones was down almost 13 points, or 0.04%, to close at 36,087. The S&P 500 was flat, remaining almost unchanged at 4,682.

The Nasdaq declined 7 points, or 0.04%, to end the day at 15,853.

The VIX volatility index, known as the fear index, was up 2.8% to 16.75. The yield on 10-year US Treasury notes rose 2.8% to 1.628%.

The US dollar index increased 0.43% to 95.54 at the time.

Oil prices were mixed with international benchmark Brent crude falling 0.16% to $82.04 per barrel, but US benchmark West Texas Intermediate added 0.1% to $79.76 a barrel.

Precious metals were down with gold falling 0.12% to $1,862 per ounce and silver losing 1% to $25.09 an ounce.

The price of Bitcoin was down 0.7% to $63,720 at the time.
