US stock market opens higher

NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market opened higher on Tuesday with gains in technology firms' shares.

The Dow added 6 points to begin the day at 21,019 and the S&P 500 increased by a point to reach 2,400 points.

The Nasdaq increased 13 points to start trading at 6,116 points -- a new all-time opening high for the index.

At the first bell, e-commerce giant Amazon saw its stock price increase by 0.5 percent. Apple shares increased by 0.8 percent, elevating the company's market value to a record $826 billion.

Apple's market capitalization became $815 billion on Monday -- a first for any company in history to have a market value more than $800 billion.
