US stock market opens higher

NEW YORK (AA) - The U.S. stock market opened higher Wednesday as the Dow Jones continued to post gains.

The Dow rose 14 points to start trading at 22,845 points, reaching a new all-time high.

The S&P 500 added less than 1 point to open flat at 2,551 points, and the Nasdaq climbed almost 2 points to begin the day at 6,589 points.

The Dow closed at a record high level on Tuesday after retail giant Walmart saw its shares jump by 4.5 percent.

Walmart announced Tuesday it expects e-commerce sales to rise 40 percent in fiscal year 2019, in addition to buying back $20 billion of its shares during that period.

The company said it also plans to add 1,000 online grocery locations in the U.S. -- an attempt to compete with e-commerce giant Amazon.

Walmart shares were up 0.7 percent at the opening on Wednesday.
