US stock market opens lower
VIX volatility index jumps 7.4% to 26.47

ANKARA (AA) - Major indices in the US stock market opened lower on Monday, as the Dow Jones and the S&P 500 continue to bounce back from bear market territory.
The blue-chip Dow was down 161 points, or 0.51% to kick off the new week at 31,177 at 9.43 a.m. EDT. The S&P 500 decreased 44 points, or 1.13%, to 3,855.
The Nasdaq declined 225 points, or 1.94%, to 11,409 after the tech-heavy index finished Friday with its fifth straight daily gain.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, soared 7.4% to 26.47.
The 10-year US Treasury yield decreased 3.5% to 2.993%.
Precious metals were on decline with gold losing 0.1% to $1,740 and silver decreasing 0.1% to $19.30.
After plummeting more than 8% last Tuesday, crude prices were once again in negative territory.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading at $104.44 per barrel for a 2.5% loss, while US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was at $101.96 -- down 2.7%.
