US stock market opens with record highs

NEW YORK (AA) - A rise in technology stocks pushed major indexes in the U.S. stock market to open Wednesday at record high levels.

The Dow Jones jumped 113 points to begin trading at 23,110 points. This is the first time in history the index started a trading day above the 23,000-point threshold.

The index climbed above 23,000 points on Tuesday but ended the day below that level.

The S&P 500 also added 3 points to open at 2,562 points on Wednesday, while the Nasdaq rose 7 points to 6,630 points. Both indexes started the day by climbing to their all-time highest levels.

IBM saw its stock price soar 7.8 percent at the first bell, after the American technology giant posted third-quarter financial results late Tuesday that beat market expectations.

Specialty camera and app maker GoPro saw its shares add 4.9 percent at the opening.
