US stocks close with gains

Dow adds 0.83%, S&P increases 0.56%

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stock exchanges closed with gains Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 320 points, or 0.83%, to finish the day at 39,110. The S&P 500 added 29 points, or 0.56%, to 5,178.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, increased 63 points, or 0.39%, to end the session at 16,166.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was down 3.6% at 13.82. The 10-year US Treasury yield fell 0.1% to 4.293%.

The dollar index rose 0.126% to 103.86, while the euro was flat at $1.0863 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold adding 0.01% to $2,157 an ounce and silver increasing 0.07% to $24.93.

Oil prices were down around 0.2%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $87.17 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $82.50.
