US stocks open down
VIX volatility index, known as fear index, rises 5.21% to 35.11

ISTANBUL (AA) - Still reeling from disappointing tech company results, US indexes continued their losses from the end of last week on the first trading day in May.
The Dow Jones industrial average on Monday opened at 32,951 points at 9.30 a.m. EDT (1130GMT), down from 32,977 points at Friday's close.
The S&P 500 dropped around 8 points to 4,123, while the Nasdaq was down 12 points to 12,292.
On Friday, the Nasdaq suffered its worst monthly performance in almost 14 years.
The VIX volatility index, known as the fear index, jumped 5.21% to 35.11. The dollar index rose 0.56% to 103.5.
Precious metals posted mixed figures. Gold dropped 2.75% to $1,859.1 per ounce and silver lost 3.49% to $22.5 per oz., while steel prices gained ground.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading at $103.6 as of 1350GMT.
