US stocks open higher ahead of Fed meeting

VIX volatility index falls 6.93% to 29

ANKARA (AA) - US stocks opened on a high note Wednesday before a Federal Reserve meeting.

The Fed is set to announce its decision on interest rates at the first meeting of 2022.

The bank is not expected to make any policy changes.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 296.9 points, or 0.87%, to 34,594 at 9.30 a.m. EDT (1430GMT).

The S&P 500 rose 65.2 points, or 1.50%, to 4,422 while the Nasdaq gained 350.5 points or 2.59% to 13,890

The VIX volatility index, known as the fear index, fell 6.93% to 29.00.

The dollar index gained 0.09% to 96.013, while the yield on 10-year US Treasury notes rose 0.05% to 1.782%.
