US stocks open higher, winning back previous losses

ANKARA (AA) - US stocks opened higher Tuesday, winning back losses from the previous session.

The Dow Jones soared 424 points, or 1.35%, to 31,863 at 9.37 a.m. EDT (1337GMT). The blue-chip index fell 0.2% on Monday.

The S&P 500 rose 41 points, or 1.06%, to 3,941. The index declined 0.3% during the previous session.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq increased 110 points, or 0.95%, to 11,634. It lost 0.83% on Monday.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was down 1.6% to 26.51.

The dollar index rose 0.4% to 104.37, while the 10-year US Treasury yield increased 0.6% to 3.213%.

Precious metals were mixed with gold adding 0.06% to $1,824 but silver falling 0.2% to $21.11.

Crude prices were up more than 1%. Global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading at $112.40 for a 1.3% gain, while US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was at $110.72 -- up 1.1%.
