US stocks up at opening bell as investors focus on corporate earnings

ANKARA (AA) - US stocks started Tuesday with gains as investors focus on corporate earnings from headline companies like Netflix and Tesla.

As the day started, US housing starts were reported to fall to their lowest level since September 2021, hitting 1.56 million in June, according to the Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Euro area annual inflation also spiked to 8.6% in June, the highest level on record, putting additional pressure on the European Central Bank to raise interest rates.

The blue-chip Dow went up 206.99 points, or 0.67% to 31,279, while the S&P 500 rose 39.80 points, or 1.04%, to 3,870.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq jumped 141.49 points, or 1.25%, to 11,501.

The yield on 10-year Treasuries was slightly changed at 2.98%.

The MSCI World index went up 0.9%.

Global oil benchmark Brent crude was down 0.52% at $105.34 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate crude fell 1.4% to $101.20 a barrel.
