Victorious in Super Lig, Basaksehir take over 1st spot

ANKARA (AA) - Medipol Basaksehir beat Yeni Malatya 1-0 on Friday, retaking the top spot in Turkey's Super Lig.

Fans at Istanbul's Fatih Terim Stadium saw only one goal, which came in the 18th minute of the first half, when Dutch winger Eljero Elia easily completed his teammate Edin Visca's pass inside the six-yard box.

Medipol Basaksehir increased its points total to 59 to take over first place. Facing Genclerbirligi on Monday in the capital Ankara, Galatasaray will try to recapture the lead.

On Saturday evening, Besiktas -- who are sitting at 3rd place with 53 points -- will host Goztepe at Vodafone Stadium.

The other title contender, Fenerbahce, will host Osmanlispor at home to get another three points. They are currently at 4th place with 51 points.
