SIIRT, Turkey (AA) - A village guard was martyred and four others were injured by PKK terrorists in Turkey’s southeastern province of Siirt on Wednesday, a security source said.

PKK terrorists detonated handmade explosive in Sirvan district of Siirt, the source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

The four injured were taken to Siirt State Hospital.

Turkish security forces have launched an operation in the region to arrest the PKK terrorists.

Meanwhile, a female PKK terrorist surrendered on Tuesday to security forces in southeastern Hakkari province, the governor's office said on Wednesday.

The PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, nearly 600 security personnel, including troops, police officers, and village guards, have been martyred, and more than 5,000 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
