HATAY, Turkey (AA) – A leading Turkish aid organization has built a village for 100 war victim families in Syria’s Idlib province.

Located in the Kelbit region, it was constructed through cooperation between the Turkey-based Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) and the Qatar Foundation in Doha, IHH said Thursday in a statement.

One hundred reinforced concrete homes were built, each measuring 75 square meters (807 square feet). Every house also includes a small 20-square-meter (65-square-foot) garden for farming. Fifty-three of the houses will be given to orphans and their families.

According to the statement, there is also a school, mosque, market and health center.

Syria has been locked in a vicious civil war since 2011, when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity.

Since then, hundreds of thousands of people have been killed in the conflict, according to UN figures.
