Virus cases, casualties rise in Eurasia, Central Asia

Georgia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan report new cases of novel coronavirus

KIEV (AA) - Dozens of new fatalities and coronavirus cases were reported in several Eurasian and Central Asian countries on Thursday.

- Georgia

Georgia’s Prime Ministry said in a statement that there were a total of 1,871 cases in the country, with 57 additions over the past day.

The number of recoveries reached 1,334 as nine more patients recovered over the past 24 hours. The death toll in the country stood at 19.

- Uzbekistan

In a statement, the Health Ministry in Uzbekistan said that 379 more people contracted the virus and the total count climbed to 45,160, while the total number of fatalities rose to 368 with four new deaths.

The official data showed that another 50 people recovered from the disease, bringing the count to 42,212, which approximately translates to 93% recovery rate.

A total of 2,580 people are going through medical treatment in the country where some 100,000 people are currently monitored for the infection.

- Ukraine

Ukraine registered 2,582 new virus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 145,612, Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said.

The death toll rose to 3,023 as 44 more people died of the virus. Most recently, 1,174 people recovered from the virus, taking the total number of recoveries to 65,877.

Stepanov said the mortality rate decreased to %2.1, one of the lowest in Europe.

The quarantine regime in the country was extended until Nov. 1.

- Armenia

According to the Armenian Health Ministry, 174 more people were diagnosed with the disease, pushing the tally to 45,376.

The virus claimed one more life in the country, raising the death toll to 906. So far, 41,233 people have recovered from the virus and 2,908 people are currently being treated.

- Kazakhstan

The Health Ministry in Kazakhstan confirmed that the total number of cases rose to 106,584, with 86 additions over the past 24 hours.

With the recovery of 206 patients, the total number of recoveries reached 100,248. The death toll rose to 1,651 as five more people died from the disease.

- Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan confirmed that 71 people were diagnosed with the virus over the past day and the registered cases totaled 44,684.

The Health Ministry said 40,336 people recovered from COVID-19 and no one died from the virus over the past day.

Nearly 3,000 people are receiving treatment and a total of 1,061 people have lost their lives to the coronavirus in the country.

The virus has claimed more than 904,300 lives in 188 countries and regions since it broke out in China in December. The US, Brazil and India are currently the worst-hit countries.

Over 27.89 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries surpassing 18.79 million, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
