Virus cases in Central Asia, Eurasia up by over 12,100

KYIV, Ukraine (AA) – More than 12,100 coronavirus cases and over 190 deaths were reported across Eurasia and Central Asia on Friday.

- Ukraine

Ukraine registered 8,312 new cases and 173 fatalities over the past 24 hours, raising the overall count to 378,729, including 7,041 deaths.

Recoveries increased by 3,394 to reach 155,026, according to Health Minister Maksym Stepanov.

Some 1,140 patients were admitted to hospitals over the past day, he said.

More than 78,000 COVID-19 tests were done in the past 24 hours, the minister added.

- Georgia

Georgia’s COVID-19 case tally surged by 1,696 over the past day, reaching 37,304.

At least 12 more patients died, moving the toll to 285, while recoveries increased by 2,906 to stand at 19,810.

Georgia has seen a spike in infection since early September and there are currently 4,200 patients in hospitals, 3,070 in quarantine, and 2,324 people under observation across the country.

- Kyrgyzstan

A total of 596 more COVID-19 cases have raised Kyrgyzstan’s overall count to 58,394, according to the Health Ministry.

Three patients died over the past day, moving the death toll to 1,142, while 425 recoveries pushed the total to 49,522.

As many as 3,359 patients are in hospitals across the country, with 3,814 more in home quarantine.

Kyrgyzstan has carried out 417,187 coronavirus tests since March 18, according to official data.

- Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan reported 150 more virus cases over the past 24 hours, taking the total to 66,542.

One more fatality moved the death toll to 562, while recoveries rose by 132 to reach 63,713, bringing the total recovery rate to 96%, the Health Ministry said.

Some 2,267 COVID-19 patients remain under treatment in the country.

- Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan registered 392 new cases and four fatalities over the past day, raising the overall count to 111,492, including 1,844 deaths.

Recoveries increased by 176 to 106,059, according to the Health Ministry.

As many as 3,461 patients, including 303 children, are under treatment in the country, with 135 of them in serious condition and nine in critical state, the ministry added.

Pneumonia patients that have COVID-19 symptoms but test negative for the virus increased by 195 to reach 37,574.

Two more such patients died in the past 24 hours, moving the toll to 399, the ministry said.

At least 28,659 pneumonia patients have recovered in the country so far, it added.

- Belarus

Belarus has restricted entry from border crossings with Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine because of the COVID-19 outbreak, authorities announced on Thursday.

In a statement, the State Boundary Committee said the measure will not affect members of diplomatic and consular missions, transport drivers, and international train crews.

The restrictions also do not apply to arrivals at the Minsk National Airport, the authority said.

Belarus has registered 96,529 virus cases so far, including 973 deaths and 85,332 recoveries.
