Virus cases in Eurasia, Central Asia rise by over 3,700

BAKU, Azerbaijan (AA) - Coronavirus cases and fatalities continued to rise across Eurasian and Central Asian countries on Tuesday.

- Ukraine

Ukraine registered 2,884 new virus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 181,237, Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said.

The death toll rose to 3,642 as 59 more people died from the virus. Most recently, 1,717people recovered from the virus, taking the total number of recoveries to 79,901.

- Uzbekistan

In a statement, the Health Ministry in Uzbekistan said with 421 more people contracting the virus, the total count climbed to 52,421, while the total number of fatalities rose to 440 with three new deaths.

The official data showed that another 237 people recovered from the disease, bringing the count to 48,606. A total of 3,445 patients are under medical treatment in the country.

- Georgia

The case count in Georgia reached 3,954, with 218 cases reported over the past day. The death toll has reached 22, with two more fatalities over the past 24 hours.

A total of 1,574 patients have so far recovered in the country, while over 5,200 people are still under quarantine.

- Armenia

The total number of cases in Armenia increased by 115 to reach 47,667.

Two more virus-related fatalities moved the death toll to 938, while recoveries reached 42,676.

- Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan reported 71 more cases, raising the tally to 45,542.

The death toll remains at 1,063, while the number of recoveries stands at 41,796 with 114 additions.

- Kazakhstan

In Kazakhstan, 67 new infections raised the overall count to 107,374.

Recoveries increased by 123 to reach 102,064, while four fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,703, the Health Ministry said.

- Worldwide

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed nearly 965,200 lives in 188 countries and regions since it originated in China last December. The US, India and Brazil are currently the worst-hit countries.

Over 31.34 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries exceeding 21.51 million, according to figures compiled by the US-based Johns Hopkins University.
