'Visit Izmir': SunExpress sponsors Turkey's Izmir city guide app

ANKARA (AA) - Turkish-German airline SunExpress is sponsoring a city guide mobile app for Turkey's western Izmir province, a major tourist attraction famous for its beaches, history and culture.

'Visit Izmir' will be launched in June, and aims to introduce Izmir as an ideal holiday destination to the world, said a statement by SunExpress, a joint venture of flag carriers Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, on Friday.

The app will help tourists visiting the city access information about Izmir's more than 2,000 attractions in 11 different categories, from gastronomy to historical and cultural heritage and accommodation to sightseeing routes.

Izmir Mayor Tunc Soyer said "the app will greatly contribute to the growth of the tourism industry and small businesses."

SunExpress CEO Max Kownatzki said the airline connects Izmir to countless destinations with direct flights on both domestic and international routes.

"With its rich historical and cultural heritage, as well as its beautiful nature and scenery, Izmir is a perfect holiday destination in Turkey where people from all around the world can safely enjoy the vacation of their choice," Kownatzki said.

SunExpress will continue to "actively" promote tourism in the Aegean region, as well as in Turkey in general, he said.
