Wildfires in Aegean Mugla mostly under control, Turkish president says

Over 1,100 vehicles as well as 15 planes, 46 helicopters engaged in efforts by land, air to extinguish fire, says President Erdogan

MUGLA, Türkiye (AA) – Wildfires, which have been burning for three days in Türkiye's Aegean coastal province of Mugla, are now mostly under control, the nation's president said on Friday.

Visiting a fire-hit region in the Marmaris town, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said more than 4,500 personnel are battling flames.

The president, who was briefed by relevant ministers and authorities about the latest situation, also said over 1,100 vehicles as well as 15 planes and 46 helicopters are engaged in efforts by land and air to put out blazes.

Fires in Dalaman, Fethiye, Koycegiz, and Seydikemer have been contained, said Erdogan.

"The fires are largely under control," said the Turkish president, adding that efforts, including cooling, continue to extinguish fires completely.

He said burned areas will be afforested again.
