Woman with COVID-19 gives birth to baby in Nigeria

ANKARA (AA) - A 40-year-old woman, who tested positive for the coronavirus, gave birth to a baby girl at a hospital in Nigeria’s commercial capital Lagos, the hospital said on Monday.

The baby girl was born at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

In a Twitter post, the hospital said both mother and the baby “are doing fine.”

The coronavirus death toll in Nigeria stands at 40, while a total of 239 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from the virus.

After originating in China last December, COVID-19, the disease caused by a coronavirus, has spread to at least 185 countries and regions across the world. Europe and the US are currently the worst-hit regions.

The pandemic has killed more than 209,600 people, with total infections exceeding 3 million, while over 885,300 have recovered from the disease, according to figures compiled by the US-based Johns Hopkins University.
