World Cup: VAR used as France beat 2-1 Australia

ANKARA (AA) - France defeated Australia 2-1 in World Cup Group C match on Saturday afternoon in historical match as Video Assistant Referee (VAR) is used for the first time.

All of the 3 goals scored at Kazan Arena came in the second half, as VAR review handed Les Bleus a penalty kick in the 58th minute.

France's striker Antoine Griezmann made no mistake from the line to give his team the lead.

Only 4 minutes later, Australia was awarded a penalty kick as Umtiti cleared the cross with his hand.

The Socceroos' experienced captain Mile Jedinak equalized the match at 1-1.

With 10 minutes to go, Paul Pogba's deflected shot narrowly crossed the line as the referee's goal-line technology once again came in handy for France.

France leads Group C after the first match, Peru and Denmark will play at 1600GMT.
